Meaning of Form

The Offense-Defense forms are equivalent to most schools' "one step sparring" techniques and are basically fundamental exercises.

The Form

All forms begin from the ready stance following a bow.
Offense
  1. Ready stance.
  2. Step back with right leg into front stance, down block over left knee with left arm. Keiop.
  3. Step, right middle punch.
  4. Step, left middle punch.
  5. Step, right high punch, left middle punch.
  6. Step, right high punch, left middle punch.
  7. Step, right high punch, left high punch, right middle punch, left middle punch.
  8. Step, right high punch, left high punch, right middle punch, left middle punch.
  9. Right leg side kick, land in horse stance (body facing west), right arm elbow strike (holding right wrist with left hand).
  10. Step back with left leg into right front stance, left arm high punch, right arm middle punch, left arm middle punch.
  11. Left leg side kick, setting left foot down into left front stance, right arm middle punch, left middle punch.
  12. Right leg side kick, setting right foot down into right front stance, right middle punch, left middle punch.
  13. Left side kick, turn 360 degrees, clockwise, on right foot.
  14. Ready stance.
Defense
  1. Ready stance. Keiop if facing a partner.
  2. Step back with right leg, left arm outside block.
  3. Step back, right arm outside block.
  4. Step back, high block with left arm, outside block with right arm.
  5. Step back, high block with left arm, outside block with right arm.
  6. Step back, left arm high block, right arm high block, left arm low block, right arm low block.
  7. Step back, left arm high block, right arm high block, left arm low block, right arm low block.
  8. Step back with left leg into a side horse stance (body facing south), right arm comes from just behind right thigh to front of right thigh to block the kick (an inner down block). The right arm continues in same direction (making a semi-circle) to perform an elbow block at head level.
  9. Step back with left leg into a right front stance (still facing south), left arm high block. Step back with left leg again (body facing east) into a side horse stance, right arm inside block, right arm outside block.
  10. Slide back, down block with right arm, inside block with left (across the body), inside block with right.
  11. Slide back, down block with right, inside block with left, inside block with right.
  12. Bring right leg towards left into a shoulder width stance. Inner down block (see #8).
  13. Barro.
