Mr. Hammond has been participating in the Martial Arts since 1979. He is currently a Fourth Dan Black Belt. Mr. Hammond is the Head Instructor at Pinckneyville Community Center and Bunten Road Park.

Mr. Hammond has been the recipient of many prestigious awards. In 2001, Mr. Hammond received an award for Years of Outstanding Service and Instruction at Charles Minter Karate. In 2003, Mr. Hammond received the Patience award from Mr. Minter. Mr. Hammond is also a three-time Instructor of the Year with Parks and Recreation.
